My Training
I started my academic journey in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Monash University, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology at James Cook University. Driven by an interest in research, I pursued a Master of Science (Research) in Psychology at RMIT University in Australia, focusing on adolescent suicide. I then went on to complete a Master’s in Counselling at Monash University.
I now mainly use Schema Therapy, along with Somatic Trauma Therapy in my work. Schema Therapy helps people identify and change deep-rooted patterns formed in childhood that affect how they view themselves and the world. These patterns can cause problems with behaviour and emotions. The therapy works to uncover the reasons behind these patterns and teaches healthier ways to cope, improving emotional control and relationships.
Somatic Trauma Therapy focuses on how the body and mind are connected in healing trauma. It looks at how physical sensations and the nervous system hold and process traumatic experiences. By focusing on the body, clients learn to notice their physical sensations, release built-up tension, and manage their emotions better. The goal is to heal trauma in a way that connects both the body and mind.
I have received training in Schema Therapy from Chris Hayes and Dr. Robert Brockman. My Somatic Trauma Therapy training was with Babette Rothschild, a renowned expert known for her work in incorporating body-based approaches into trauma treatment. Additionally, I draw on techniques and concepts from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
I am also CAMS trained, an evidence-based therapeutic approach for
assessing and treating suicide risk.
